Fixed Tiering
- Lecture Theatres & Auditoriums
SIS Global Seating specialises in the design, manufacture, and installation of fixed tiered flooring, providing the essential foundation for high-performance seating. Unlike suppliers who only provide chairs, we deliver a complete turnkey solution—engineering bespoke structures to fit any space, from compact lecture halls to large, complex auditoriums.
Our modular construction systems allow for rapid installation, transforming rooms into tiered lecture theatres, auditoriums, or theatres within days. Each structure is precision-built with tailored riser and tread dimensions, available in straight or curved configurations, to maximise capacity, improve sightlines, and enhance the overall user experience. With robust construction and compliance to British Standards, our fixed tiering ensures lasting durability and outstanding performance in every project.
Configurations:
Our fixed tiering is built from robust box-section mild steel with 24mm structural plywood deckboards, powder-coated as standard. Designed for concrete floors, it supports 1kN/m² dead load and 4kN/m² live load. Configurations include wall-to-wall or balustraded layouts, with external or inset stairs. Under-tier spaces can be left clear or customised to allow for ducting, floor level changes, and access requirements—ensuring a practical, adaptable solution for any venue.
Metalwork:
Our standard finish is an epoxy polyester powder coating in RAL 7021 Grey, providing a durable and high-quality surface. However, we also offer a wide selection of other RAL and PANTONE colors upon request.

Technical Data:
Our fixed tiering systems are engineered from box section mild steel with 24mm structural plywood deckboards, designed for strength, stability, and compliance with British and European standards. Suitable for wall-to-wall or balustraded installations, they can be customised with tailored riser and tread dimensions to optimise capacity, sightlines, and functionality for lecture theatres, auditoriums, and performance spaces.
- Box section mild steel tiering structure with 24mm structural plywood deck boards
- Steelwork powder coated as standard, structural plywood FR rated as an upgrade option when required
- Mounted to concrete flooring
- Structure designed with an offset to concrete to allow for packing, ensuring that floor inconsistency is mitigated
- Dead load – 1kN/m^2
- Live load – 4kN/m^2
- External or inset stairs in 24mm structural plywood
- Wall to wall
- Tiering can be installed so that deckboards are “wall to wall” with room cladding landing atop deckboards
- Balustraded
- Tiering can be “short” of one or both walls, with balustrades on the “open” sides to prevent falls, allowing ground-level access from beneath / beside the tiering
- Empty under-tiering volume
- Where the space beneath the tiering is without ducting or other inclusions, & access is not required, the tiering structure can be relatively straight forward
- Populated under-tiering volume
- Where the volume under the tiering may include ducting, other technical elements, floor level changes & access requirements, the tiering structure can be customised to bridge other such inclusions, handle floor level changes & include access hatches if required
- Min. riser height: 150mm
- Min. tier depth: 900mm
- Primary vertical box section: 40x40mm 3mm Wall SHS
- Primary horizontal spine box section: 40x60mm 3mm Wall RHS
- Bridging horizontal spine box section: 60x60mm 3mm Wall SHS
- Horizontal linking box section: 40x40mm 3mm Wall SHS
- Maximum gap between spine section centres: 1200mm
- Maximum gap between linking sections: 400mm
- Our standard steel tiering structures conform to specifications developed & approved by our external structural engineering partner, where a non-standard solution is necessary, or clients require, project specific structural analysis is available

Options & Accessories:
Enhance your fixed tiering with options that improve safety, access, and flexibility. Choose from under-tier access hatches, protective balustrades, or external and inset stair solutions—each designed to integrate seamlessly and meet the unique needs of your space.
Where access is required to the volume beneath the deck boards, access hatches can be installed at key locations.
Standard Hatch Size: 400x600mm opening.
Recommended that ratchets NOT be located in walkways, or highly visible locations.
Rails can be added to the rear of the tiering structure where access beyond this point is undesirable.
Where necessary, low height stairs are typically formed from a 24mm plywood box, placed against a riser to reduce the height delta between one tier & another
For applications with deeper tiers & higher risers, inset stairs allow a proportion of, or all steps to be recessed into a tier.
Inset stairs typically require a means of preventing users falling from the sides of the tier into the stairs, most commonly achieved with the specification of a complimenting seating & desk system.
Seating:
To complement our fixed tiered floors, SIS Global Seating offers a variety of fixed seating options designed to fit seamlessly into your tiered structure. Our seats can be tailored to suit your space, with a range of styles, finishes, and configurations to match your specific requirements.
